The role of inclusive education is to address this loophole and ensure that every child regardless of their sex, disability, caste, socio-economic status can access and enjoy quality education.

Despite the fact that the policies and schemes by the government have given a good foundation of inclusive education, the education programs are very often not practical due to infrastructures, trained teachers and community sensitization. It is at this point that the NGOs step in and they operate twenty four hours at the grassroots level to ensure that the sidelined children are not left out. Innovation, collaboration, and promoting change enable the development of a more inclusive education system in the country by the NGOs.

The Need for NGOs in Inclusive Education

India is a place where different communities coexist, but there is a fine line regarding education accessibility. Children who form the marginalized group which includes the differently-abled children, the tribal communities and girls in the countryside have more chances of dropping out of school.

Government programs like the Right to Education (RTE) Act, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan have made access to education more available, but still there are gaps in implementation. The NGOs are necessary because they bring in flexibility, innovativeness and community based contact with the government systems which the government systems fail to provide. By working through schools, parents and local stakeholders, NGOs are in a position to bridge the gaps in the system and provide a holistic approach to the learners.

In essence, the NGOs are the change agents in that once a policy has been incorporated to make education inclusive, then it cannot merely be a policy statement and just a declaration but it has to be a reality among the children in the whole of India.

Key Roles Played by NGOs in Inclusive Education

The NGOs have different roles in inclusive learning and thus learning becomes more available, fair and efficient.
