Teenage years are meant for studying, playing, and enjoying life. Kids often fall, stumble, and experience minor accidents while playing, but they usually recover quickly. However, the accident that happened to 14-year-old
Samarth Rananavare from Jejuri is unimaginable. While playing badminton near his house with friends, Samarth’s shuttlecock landed on the ledge of a nearby terrace. When he went to retrieve it, he accidentally came into contact with a
high-voltage (33 kV) power line, resulting in
severe burns covering 50% of his body. The accident caused
serious injuries to his head, back, legs, and nearly half of his body. He has been undergoing treatment at a
private hospital in Pune since February 7. So far, his family, friends, employees of Mahavitaran (the local electricity board), his schoolteachers, students, relatives, and a few organizations have managed to raise
₹5.3 lakh to cover medical expenses. However,
Samarth still requires 15 more days of hospitalization, with an estimated cost of
₹5 to ₹6 lakh.
A Family Struggling to CopeSamarth's father,
Amar Rananavare, originally from Rakh village (Purandar), has been living in Jejuri with his family. He works as a
contractual community organizer under various schemes of the local municipal council for a
nominal salary, supporting his family for the past
11 years. Samarth is his
only surviving child, studying in
9th grade at Jijamata High School in Jejuri.Tragically,
before Samarth, the Rananavare couple had three children, all of whom passed away within days of birth. To make matters worse,
while the family was at the hospital, their house in Jejuri was broken into, and
valuables worth ₹70,000 (jewelry and cash) were stolen. Despite these setbacks, Amar Rananavare is doing everything possible to ensure
Samarth gets complete treatment and recovers soon.
